ABRAHAM DENTON Abraham Denton was born about 1730. In 1774 he was living in Rowan County, N.C. At that time Rowan County extended westward to the Mississippi River. As mentioned previously, he married Mourning Hogg, the daughter of Gideon Hogg of near-by Caswell County, N.C. About that time, he moved to the Watauga Settlement, where he was one of the Commissioners and a signer of the Watauga Compact, which was in fact a declaration of independence. He later lived in White County, Tenn., in 1809 and later in Obion County in West Tenn., where he died in 1828.
