Biography

Corin Lucian Helms, son of Daniel W Helms[1] and Mary (McNeely) Helms,[2] was born 9 May in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The year of birth is between 1870 and 1874.

  1. 1870 according to his Social Security Application (made himself older) and gravestone[2][3]
  2. 1873 according to the 1900 Census and his Death Certificate[4][5]
  3. abt 1874 according to the 1880 Census enumeration[6]

He rarely used his full name, often using C. L. Helms as well as the nicknames Core, Eude, and Eudy (pronounced "oodee"). "Eude" is on his gravestone in Dulin's Grove Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.[3] He wrote his full name as instructed on the Application for Social Security Number but signed Core L. Helms.[2] He was enumerated as Eudy Helms on the 1900 Census.[4]

He was married four times. He and his first wife, Lula Phillips, were married on 23 Aug 1892 at Clear Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. [7] [8] They had ten children before her death in 1918:

Next, he married Sallie Crayton, daughter of George Jenkins, on 15 March 1919. [1] [9] He and Sallie had one daughter, Della.[10]

His third wife was Florence Lloyd, married on 16 Aug 1924 in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.[11]

His fourth wife was Louise (Propst) Fesperman, married on 21 May 1955 in Midland, Cabarrus County, North Carolina[12]

Core L Helms died on 16 Mar 1966 [13] and is buried at Dulin's Grove Advent Christian Church Cemetery, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.[3]
