Biography

Ann Grieve was baptised on April 20, 1755, at Falabank, Cockburnspath, Scotland. Her parents were William Grieve and Elspath Begarno. The witnesses were David and John Grieve.[1][2]

On November 24, 1775, David Ker and Ann Grieve were married at Edinburgh by Thomas Murray. They were both from Cockburnspath parish, and were rebuked by the parish for their irregular marriage on December 3, 1775.[3]

David Kerr and Ann Grieve had the following known children:

  • Elspeth Ker, baptised October 20, 1776 at Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were John Fife and James Veatch.[4]
  • Alison Ker, baptised January 15, 1779 at Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were George Turnbull and George Gilroy.[5]
  • William Ker, baptised May 13, 1781 at Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were John Grieve and John Fife.[6]
  • Christian Ker, baptised March 23, 1783, at Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were Adam Hog and John Millar.[7]
  • Ann Ker, baptised October 20, 1785 at Redheugh, Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were John Turnbull and John Hasty.[8]
  • Peggy Ker, baptised November 20, 1788, at Dowlaw, Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witness was Andrew Spence. This baptism was recorded at the same time as the baptism of her younger sister Grievy.[9]
  • Grievy Ker, baptised February 1, 1791, at Falabank, Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were Peter Swanston and George Ker.[10]
  • David Ker, baptised June 30, 1793, at Headchesters, Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were James and William Grieve.[11]
  • James Ker, baptised January 12, 1797, at Headchesters, Cockburnspath, Scotland. The witnesses were George Ker and James Robertson.[12]
