Biography

UNUSUAL FIRST NAME: Her name is listed as "Phillip (daughter)" in several printed sources, and is sometimes written as Phillipa. In some databases, she's marked as male. Her name is also written as Phillis. One of her daughters is also named Phillip.

"Daughter of Major John Greene and granddaughter of Surgeon John Greene, who came to Boston in 1635 in the ship "JAMES", settled at Salem, where he was associated with Roger Williams, and in 1636, joined Williams at Providence, and was the ancestor of the distinguished GREENE family of Rhode Island." Her father was the Deputy Governor of Warwick Rhode Island.

Phillis Greene, daughter of John Greene and Ann Almy, was born in Warwick Oct. 7, 1658. She married about 1675 Caleb Carr, son of Robert, the emigrant, and lived in Jamestown until his death in 1690, having borne him seven children. She married second Charles Dickinson.

Birth

Phillis Greene, daughter of Capt John & Ann Greene, was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, 7 Oct 1658.[1]

Marriages

Phillip Green married Caleb Carr before the birth of their first child, 2 January 1678. Caleb wrote a will, dated at Jamestown, Rhode Island, 27 January 1690 and proved at Newport 30 March 1690.[2]

Phillipa (Green) Carr, widow of Caleb Carr, married secondly Charles Dickinson, as his 2nd wife. He married a third time after her death.[3]

Death

Phillip (Green) (Carr) Dickinson probably predeceased her father. John Green, Phillip's father, wrote his will 30 December 1706. One item says: "I give to my Daughter Philip Dickinsons children sixteen pounds in Currant New England Money to be Improved for the Benefit of Every one of them as they Come to Age And if any One of them Dye before they Come to age then their part shall Redown to the survivors." He made £16 bequests directly to each of his other daughters, implying that Phillip was already deceased.[4]

Philip was dead by the date of her father's will in 1706. I feel her children by Charles Dickinson were only Charles, John, Richard, and Jonathan. This would spread out the distribution of their years of birth to about 1692 to 1698. Charles Dickinson's wife Sarah I think was probably Sarah, widow of Thomas Winterton (for reasons see my article in The American Genealogist, q.v.). She was probably the mother of Samuel, Philip, and Christopher, who were born say 1704, 1706, and 1708.

Greene-41 and Greene-5163 appear to represent the same person because: same name & spouse

The 3 March 1690 death date is obviously too early and may be based on births of the Carr children, but she remarried and had children later. Death year should be changed to after 1706.
