Biography

In the 1871 census Lawrence (age 4) was in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.^[1]In the 1881 census Laurance (age 13), School, was in Barrie, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, the only son (with six sisters) of Letitia Grahame.^[2]

"Laurence Hill Grahame attended the School (Trinity College School) from 1883 to 1885;"[1]

Marriage record in 1888 says Laurie was born in Woodbridge Ontario and lives at 247 College Street, Toronto, and he works as a clerk.^[3]

Lawrence was in a tax record in 1890 in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada.^[4]

By 1891 Laurence and wife Jessie Laura Morson were living in Brockville Ontario.^[5]They lived on 6th Avenue in Brooklyn NY in 1900 where Laurence was a reporter. In 1904 they lived in St Louis for a few months for Laurence's work at the World Fair. Directly after that they moved to Puerto Rico. In 1910 they moved to Lakefield Ontario where Laurence had purchased the Lakefield Canoe Company. In 1911 Laurence and Jessie, daughter Elsie, mother Laetitia and two young male boarders lived in Lakefield, Peterborough District Ontario. Son Gordon was teaching at the adjoining boy's boarding school. In 1914 Laurence and Jessie were living in London England.

Laurie and Jessie had 5 children, one of whom died young at age 4 1/2 in 1895 in Toronto, and another was stillborn c. 1903 in Brooklyn.

Laurence was a passenger in 1894 travelling from England to the United States^[6]Also in 1915.^[7]

Laurence worked as a journalist for the New York Commercial Advertiser from 1895-1901. He was a political correspondent in Albany and a war correspondent in Cuba. He was a friend of Theodore Roosevelt Jr. and was the press secretary for Roosevelt's successful runs for Governor of New York, Vice President and President. Laurence was the secretary-treasurer of the 1904 World's Fair and Secretary of the Interior for Puerto Rico 1904-1908. Laurence was known to his coworkers as 'Larry'.

In 1900 Laurence (age 33) was in a census record, the married head of household in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States.^[8]

Laurence was a passenger in 1910 travelling from Puerto Rico to the United States^[9]

In the 1911 census Laurence was the married head of household in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada with his wife, daughter Elsie and mother Letitia.^[10]

Laurence applied for a passport in 1917 in District Of Columbia, United States. He was shown to be a naturalized American citizen.^[11]

Laurence was buried in the Walter Morson plot in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Oct 5, 1918. Lawrence was mentioned on a memorial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, Toronto Municipality, Ontario, Canada with a death date of 3 October 1918.^[12]
