Birth
Mary Graham was born in 1862 in Cathcart, Renfrewshire, Scotland in the United Kingdom. She was the daughter of Irish born James Graham, a ploughman, and Janet McInnes, a farm servant. ^{[1] [2]} Mary was baptized on 4 January 1863 in the Cathcart Old Parish Church in Cathcart, Renfrewshire.^[3]

Immigration
Mary and her parents immigrated to New Zealand. Records show they sailed aboard the Helenslee leaving Glasgow on 10 September 1864. The 334 passengers on board were selected by an agent for the Auckland Government in Glasgow. The Helenslee was a 3-masted wood sailing vessel which made several voyages to Auckland carrying immigrants. This was her second visit to the colony. "She had favourable winds almost from the start, but Captain Brown and the passengers had an anxious time when passing through icebergs on November 18. The bergs extended for several miles, and were from 80ft to 100ft high." They arrived at Auckland just before Christmas, on 23 December 1864 after a little more than 100 days at sea. Passengers were ferried to the Queen Street wharf by means of cargo boats. During the voyage there were 9 births and 14 deaths, twelve of which were infants. ^[4]

Mary's parents settled in Pōkeno a small town in the Waikato region in New Zealand, 53 km southeast of Auckland. They were among the first settlers in the region.

Marriage
On the 2nd of January 1883, Mary married Scottish-born Thomas Wright, who had also immigrated to New Zealand aboard the Helenslee in 1864. They were married in Pokeno. ^[5] They would have eight children together:

Mary's husband Thomas passed away at age 42 in 1897. He was buried in Pokeno Cemetery in Pokeno. Mary was left a widow with eight children aged two years to 13 years old.

Second marriage
In 1899, Mary, age 37, married for a second time to 27-year-old Charles William Landon. ^[12]

Mary's father James Graham died in 1901.

In 1906, Charles' younger brother Henry Wootten Landon, age 26, married Mary's daughter, 22-year-old Helen "Nellie" Wright. They would have five children together.

Will dispute
Mary's mother Janet (McInnes) Graham passed away in 1915. As it turned out, her mother had two wills. One dated from 1913 leaving her property, comprising a farm of 52 acres at Pokeno, together with her personal effects, to her two sons. In a later will made in 1914, she left a small share in the estate to her daughters, the major portion being divided between her two sons. After court proceedings, the will from 1913 was probated. The beneficiary of the estate was Mary's youngest brother Samuel, who was to pay his brother James a sum of money. One can imagine that family ties were strained by this legal dispute.

Death
Mary passed away at age 90 in 1952. ^{[13] [14]} She was buried in Papakura Cemetery in Papakura, Auckland, New Zealand. ^[15] Mary's obituary was published in various New Zealand newspapers. ^{[16] [17]} Mary was survived by her second husband Charles, her children, at least six grandchildren and at least six great grandchildren (at the time). Her four siblings had predeceased her.
