Biography

Partial transcript from p 35: (edited) II-1. Robert Giffin, son of Daniel and grandson of Robert the pioneer settler at Wheeling. ........... He was the first farmer in the vicinity to prohibit the use of liquor on his farm. His home was on the head waters of Battle Run, Ohio County, W.Va. He was a pioneer who cleared most of the land he afterwards cultivated so diligently.

Robert Giffin was the son of Daniel Giffen (1769 - 1852). He was an elder in the Old Tent congregation and later Roney's Point Presbyterian, he was an early and staunch abolitionist. Two of his sons fought in the Civil War.

During his life Robert and his family always used the "in" spelling of Giffin.
