Biography

Charles Washington Gettz was married to Maria Field on the first of February, 1st, 1851.

Maria Field passed away on the 4th of November, 1865.

Charles married secondly Sarah Thompson Simon on the 10th of December, 1866.

Charles Washington and Sarah Thompson are first cousins once removed and are both descendants of George Getz. Charles and Sarah are also first cousins once removed as both are also descendants of the father of George Getz, John Michael Getz. This is because Sarah Thompson Simon's parents were second cousins.

Charles son David Luther Gettz married Hannah Elizabeth Simon on the 28th of January, 1877. Hannah and Sarah Thompson Simon are third cousins twice as both are descendants of John Simon and also descendants of John Henry (Jung) Young.

I am the great-great grandaughter of Charles Washington Gettz, b: 22, FEB 1829, and Sarah Thompson Simon, b: 4, JAN 1839.. One of their children, Sarah Emma Gettz, b: 27, JUN 1875 is my maternal great-grandmother. She married William Robertson Hagey around 1895. One of their children, Hanna Somerset Hagy, is my materal grandmother. She was married to William Stanley. They had 3 daughters. My mother is their oldest...Marilyn Lois Stanley who was married to my father in the Trinity Lutheran Church on Westchester Pike in 1961 and is the church my grandmother has attended all her life. She's still living. I don't know if this is the same Gettz family.

It is indeed the same Gettz family. I was "born and raised" at Trinity and lived not far from where Hanna and Bill Stanley lived. I was quite aware of your mother and her sister while growing up.

Thats fantastic! Hannah and Bill's youngest daughter, my Aunt Diane (Pryor) has done some family tree research and yesterday my mother emailed me some information for my youngest sons school project and then I became intrigued and started looking up names. My grandfather, Bill, died when I was in first grade and then Hannah remarried Edwin Kelley when I was around 12. When I read the message board regarding the Trinity Lutheran Church on West Chester Pike, I had a feeling it was the same Gettz family. I remember hearing years ago that one of my ancestors founded/started that church.

I am researching my brother-in-law's family and noticed Charles Gettz is a common ancestor with you. I have found on Rootsweb.com that he apparently had two wives, so I thought I'd share that info with you. My brother-in-law descends from David Gettz below. If you'd like more, let me know.
