Biography

Enoch Fox was born circa 1774-1776, in Virginia, most likely Shenandoah Valley.[1] He was the son of James Fox and Elizabeth Fox. Some say his mother's maiden name was Bean, but that has not been proven.

On 9 January 1797, in Knox county, Tennessee, Enoch married Eliza "Peggy" Dale. [2][3]

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Enoch, age 74, was living in Ray county, Missouri with Parthena Cox age 36, born circa 1814, in Tennessee and Elija Fox (grandson?) age 10, born circa 1840, in Missouri.[1]

Research Notes

Shenandoah county was a part of Spotsylvania county, from 1720 to 1734. It was part of Orange county from 1734 to 1738. It was part of Augusta and Frederick counties from 1738 to 1753, and then Frederick county, until 1772. In 1772, Dunmore county was established and renamed Shenandoah in 1777. The Shenandoah County Library contains a Family Folder collection that includes source documents for Enoch and his parents, James and Elizabeth Fox. [4]
