Birth & Upbringing: Leslie Field was born in 1923 [1] and raised in Canterbury, Kent. He was the son of George Field and Lillian Edwards. He married Joyce Waller in 1946 at Canterbury, England[2].
Military Service: Leslie was a member of the Royal Airforce during World War II, serving in Southern Rhodesia with the Air Training School, Gwelo.
Migration: He migrated to Southern Rhodesia in April 1957[3]
to take up a take up a career in teaching and education, first settling in Gwelo. He was joined by his family in 1957 and they set up home in Gwelo.
Occupation: By profession, Leslie was a teacher. He joined the Rhodesian Civil Service and took up posting as both a teacher and headmaster at several schools in Rhodesia. Leslie was a renowned abstract artist and had on occasions had his work displayed at the National Gallery of then Rhodesia. He was also a sculptor, being the originator of a water feature in Harare's First Street Mall, which still stands today.

Demise: Leslie died, aged 76, 2 November 1999 in Cape Town, South Africa. He donated his remains to the University of Cape Town for medical research.
