Biography

ISABEL

Daughter of Henry I 'Beauclerc', King of England and his fiftenth mistress; ISABELLE de Beaumont, daughter of ROBERT de Beaumont Comte de Meulan, Earl of Leicester & his wife Isabelle de Vermandois ([1102/07]-). Guillaume de Jumièges records one illegitimate daughter of King Henry I as daughter of "Elizabeth sorore Waleranni comitis Mellenti"[168]. She married Gilbert FitzGilbert de Clare Earl of Pembroke. Guillaume de Jumièges records that "Giselbertus filius Gisleberti" married “sororem Waleranni comitis Mellenti...Elizabeth” by whom he had “filium primogenitum...Richardum”[169]. Henry II King of England confirmed the donations to the nuns of Saint-Saens by "Isabel comitissa qui fuit uxor Gilleberti comitis" by charter dated to [1172/1182][170].

Guillaume de Jumièges records one illegitimate daughter of King Henry I as daughter of "Elizabeth sorore Waleranni comitis Mellenti", adding that she was unmarried at the time of writing[313]. She lived with her mother. The Chronique de Normandie, based on le Roman de Rou, records that "Ysabelle, fille le Conte Gallerant de Meullent", seventh illegitimate daughte of King Henry I, did not marry[314]. She witnessed two charters for her half-brother Richard FitzGilbert de Clare Earl of Pembroke, with her mother[315].

Birth date: Born say 1125 (1120 to 1130).
Dates are estimated from what is known about her mother. Her mother may have been born as early as 1102 or as late as 1110. Her mother, formerly mistress of Henry I, married and was having children with Gilbert Fitz Gilbert by 1130. She remarried and had at least one more child after 1148. Putting this together, the most likely dates for Isabel of Meulan to have had an illegitimate child by Henry I is between 1120 and 1130.

England-986 and England-295 appear to represent the same person because: Somehow the web has come up with "Hedwig of England" being the illegitimate dau. of Isabel de Beaumont and Henry I ... via Cobb archive.org. It's also repeated at Geni.com. But neither Medlands nor Weir mention a "Hedwig". Please merge... it's really a duplicate.
