John Slatter and Fanny Eaton were married after banns at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 23rd November 1872.[2] They were bachelor and spinster and both living in Hanborough. John was 22, a labourer and the son of James Slatter (deceased) who was a labourer. Fanny was 23, a gloveress and the daughter of Thomas Eaton who was a labourer. They each signed their own name on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were Charles Woodward and Caroline Woodward.[3]
Fanny Slatter, head, 62, widow, supported by children, born in Handborough, Oxford
Edith Slatter, daughter, 33, single, dressmaker, born in Handborough, Oxford.
Fanny stated on the census that there had been four children born to her marriage which took place 38 years before, and that one of those children had died. This was crossed out by the census collector as the information was only expected to be captured for married women (not widows).
