Biography

William Duncan was born in Scotland.

William Duncan, son of David Duncan (bef.1757-aft.1800) and Barbara (Marshall) Duncan (1759-bef.1847), was born on 18 March 1789 in Ferry Port on Craig (Tayport), Fife, Scotland, and was baptised there on 22 March 1789.^[1][2]

William Duncan and Barbara Greig were married in the house of the Reverend Mr John Murray, Minister of the Trinity Chapel in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on 2 February 1816.^[3] Their children were:

• Ann Duncan (1819-)^[4]
• James Duncan (1824)^[5]
• Robert Duncan (1826-)^[6]
• Barbara Duncan (1828-1830)^[7]
• Mary Duncan (1831-)^[8]

William Duncan, a Sailor, died after a short period of great distress on 10 May 1834 in Ferry Port on Craig, Fife, Scotland at age 45 and was buried there on the 11 May 1834.^[9] A memorial was erected in the Ferry Port on Craig graveyard to William and his wife Barbara by their son James:

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord

Erected by James Duncan shipmaster in remembrance of his wife Ogilvie Keay who died 20 February 1887 aged 63 years also their son William Robert Duncan who died 15 February 1887 aged 33 years their daughter Christina Ogilvie Duncan who died November 1869 aged 8 years also 5 children who died in infancy also his father and mother William Duncan and Barbara Greig^[10]
