Biography

Mary Duncan was born in Scotland.

Mary Duncan, daughter of David Duncan (bef.1757-aft.1800) and Barbara (Marshall) Duncan (1759-bef.1847), was born on 13 September 1783 and was baptised on the same day in Ferry Port on Craig (Tayport), Fife, Scotland.^[1][2]

On the night of the 6 June 1841 census, 55 year old Mary was with her 82 year old mother Barbara Duncan, nee Marshall, and 15 year old niece Mary Duncan, daughter of William Duncan and Barbara Greig, at Nealson (actually "Nelson") Street, FerryPort-on-Craig, Fife, Scotland.^[3][4]

In 1851 Mary, with an age given of only60, was a Lodging House Keeper in Nelson Street, Ferry Port on Craig, with two lodgers, David Ross and Alexander Finlayson.^[5]

Mary Duncan never married and died of Senectus on 8 January 1868 in Nelson Street, Ferry Port on Craig, Fife, Scotland at age 85.^[6]
