William Ellis Davey was born in 1889 at Milton, New South Wales, Australia. He was a son of Samuel Davey and Annie Addicoat.[1]

Marriage

He married Lillian Gresley in 1914 at Chatswood, New South Wales.[2]

Death

He passed away on 22nd June 1954 at North Sydney, New South Wales.[3]

Brothers – Alfred Davey, Arthur Davey and Harold Davey also served in WW1.
In September 1914 the Times Newspaper reported that “several Milton lads, resident in Sydney, already had enlisted to the front”. Harold Davey and his brother William Ellis Davey were some of these men. Both brothers lived at Willoughby in Sydney.
William Ellis Davey was born 1889 Milton; he enlisted with his brother Harold and nominated his wife Lillian as next of kin. He served with the Naval and Military Expeditionary Force, Tropical Unit, A Company at Rabual in Papua New Guinea for six months. William was discharged in March 1915 as time expired; he awarded the 1914/15 Star.
William enlisted for war service again in July 1915, by this time he had separated from his wife and assigned to the 13th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement. After service in Egypt, he returned to Australia with the rank of acting Sergeant after been medical discharged due to epilepsy in August 1916. He was awarded the British war and Victory medal. William name is listed on the Milton Primary School honour roll, Milton Methodist Church and the Milton Methodist Flag.
