Elnathan Curtiss was born on January 4, 1727 in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut, son of Ephraim Curtiss (1684–1775) and Elizabeth Stiles (1688–1778).[1]
Elnathan (17) married Sarah Ufford (16) (born on February 15, 1728 in Stratford; daughter of Thomas Ufford and Phebe (Judson) Ufford) in 1745. Their children were:
Elnathan served as a private in the Berkshire Company Militia under the command of Lieutenant Colonel David Rossiter - marched to Bennington August 16-18, 1777 Massachusetts Bay.[2]
Elnathan died on January 3, 1812 in Huntington, Fairfield, USA, aged 84 and was buried in Long Hill Burial Ground, Shelton, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States with a death date of 3 January 1812.[3]
His will was dated 1 April 1794 and recorded at Stratford. He mentions his wife Sarah, his sons, William Curtiss, Stiles Curtiss, and Elle Curtiss, and his daughters, Ruth Summers, and Phebe Birdseye, the heirs of his daughter Sarah Tomlinson, Anna Curtiss, and his granddaughter, Nancy, daughter to his daughter Anna Curtiss, and his son in law Luke Summers. His inventory was completed on 23 April 1812 in Huntington.[4]
He was a slaveholder. In his will, he bequeathed his enslaved black man named Sampson to his wife, and Sampson was to be "supported" by them.
