Margaret married Oliver James Young in Port Augusta, South Australia on 29 September 1920.[1] The following report about the marriage was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Transcontinental, on 1 October 1920:[2]

St. Augustine's Church, Port Augusta, was filled to overflowing on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 29th, on the occasion of the marriage of Margaret, second daughter of Mrs Cowan, to Oliver J., youngest son of Mrs Thos Young, both of Port Augusta. The church was tastefully decorated by the friends of the bride with bamboo arches and white flowers. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in law, looked charming in a dainty white Georgette frock, and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossom. She was attended by her sister, Miss B. Cowan, who was becomingly frocked in putty colored Georgette, with a black hat. Both the bride and bridesmaid carried posies of pink sweet peas the gift of Miss L. Ellis. Mr Keith T. Young was best man. After the ceremony the friends of the bride and bridegroom assembled at the residence of Mrs Cowan, where a reception was held. The usual toasts were honored and refreshments partaken of, after which Mr and Mrs Young motored to their home, Mundallio Station.

Margaret received a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) on 4 June 1965 in the Queen's Birthday Honours. The citation follows:[3]
