Biography

Marie-Anne Cormier[1], daughter of Pierre Cormier and Catherine LeBlanc, was born about 1715 possibly in Beaubassin, Acadie, since the family was recorded there in the 1714 census. [2]

Marie-Anne and Antoine Landry were married on 14 November 1740 in Beaubassin.[3] [4][2]

Their children were:

  1. Marie Landry (1741 - 1805)
  2. Jean Baptiste Landry (1743 - 1785)
  3. Josette Landry (1745 - )
  4. Jacques Landry (1746 - 1823)
  5. Marie Anne Landry (1748 - 1797)
  6. Joseph LANDRY ca 1749-
  7. Marie Anastasie Landry (~1753 - 1792)
  8. Nicolas Landry (~1756 - 1832).

In 1750 Antoine, Anne and their 5 children were living in Ouescoque (Amherst Point, Nova Scotia). In 1752 they were recorded in Pré-des-Richard (Middle Sackville, New Brunswick) as refugees, with 3 boys and 2 girls. [5]

"Antoine was arrested, imprisoned, and then deported without his family. He 'probably' traveled on the Prince Frederick, which departed 13 October 1755 and arrived at Georgia just before 17 November 1755. He traveled north and was reunited with his family." [6][7]

When Antoine was deported to Georgia, Marie-Anne sought refuge with her children possibly at Rivière St-Jean or at Isle St-Jean, and then in Canada, Nouvelle-France (Québec). [7][5] In July 1756, Marie-Anne and the children were aboard a ship that left Isle St-Jean and docked at the port of Québec on 13 August 1756. Many other women whose husbands had been deported to Georgia were also on board. [7] Travelling with her were the following children :

Marie Landry
Jean Landry
Joseph Landry
Jacques Landry
Marie-Anne Landry
Marie-Anastasie Landry
Nicolas Landry

Marie Anne was buried on 8 Jan 1770 in St-Michel, Yamaska, Province de Québec as widow Landry, aged 50 years (sic). [2][8]
