OBITUARY
MRS. E. W. ALISON - The death of Mrs. Mary A. Alison, wife of the Hon. E. W. Alison of Takapuna, occurred yesterday morning after a short illness. Mrs Alison was born at Manchester, England, and came to Auckland with her parents when about three years of age. Like her husband, Mrs. Alison had been closely associated with the growth and development of the Devonport and Takapuna districts, where, by her warmth of heart and wide sympathies and by participation in philanthropic and patriotic movements she won the goodwill and admiration of her fellow citizens. The full scope of her private benevolence was known to but a limited circle. Throughout the Auckland district, Mrs Alison was known as a staunch and loyal friend, keenly interested in each of the many enterprises with which her husband is associated, and a generous social worker. It fell to the lot of Mrs. Alison to be Mayoress of two separate boroughs—Devonport, of which Mr. Alison was Mayor for years. and Takapuna, of which he was the first Mayor. Mrs. Alison is survived by three sons, Mr. E. W. Alison junior, Mr. E. Ernest Alison, Mr. Alex Alison and two daughters, Mrs. John Fotheringham and Mrs. I. J. Mair, while she has eleven grandchildren.
