The birth of William Coale is recorded in the Monthly Meeting minutes of the West River Quaker church:
William married by 1685 Elizabeth Thurston, the daughter of the Quaker missionary, Thomas Thurston and the widow of George Skipwith which is proved by the entry of the birth of their first son which names her as the relict of Skipwith. William & Elizabeth were the parents of the following children whose births are recorded in Quaker minutes:
William wrote his will 24 June 1700. He mentions his brother Philip & Cassandra his wife, his brother William and his sister Eliza. the wife of Nathan Smith. His wife, Elizabeth was named the extx. and the will was probated on 24 June 1700.[3]
No children were mentioned in this will, but there must have been children because when the intention of Elizabeth Coale, widow and Samuel Chew to marry was mentioned in Quaker records in 1704, the meeting discussed the protection of the Elizabeth's children and their rights to property. One boy, named William is noted in Quaker records. He was born in 1686 & died in 1687. There was also a daughter named Cassandra who was living in 1704.[4]
