Biography

Mary "Molly" Chamberlain (aka Chamberlin), the daughter of John Chamberlain and Eunice Johnson, was born in Colchester, Connecticut, on April 22, 1744, and was baptized September 31, 1744.^[1]

She married about 1764 Andrew Spaford, son of Amos and Hannah (Vetch) Spaford. Children:^[1][2][3]

1. Elizabeth "Betty" or "Betsy", born April 30, 1765, at Colchester; married Justin Cole.^[1]
2. Amos, born December 5, 1766; married, December 1, 1791, Experience "Speedy" Lawrence; died November, 1812.^[1][2]
3. Lucy, born June 27, 1769; married (1) Jonathan Bassett, (2) Amasa Day.^[1][2]
4. Theodocia, born July 12, 1775; married, intention January 17, 1796, Ephraim Chamberlin; died October 26, 1851.^[1]
5. John, born May 2, 1776; married, November 21, 1799, Sarah "Sally" Lawrence; died June 2, 1827.^[1][2]
6. Andrew W., born July 15, 1782; married Jane W. Densmore; died after 1855.^[1][2]

Andrew moved his family from Connecticut to Berkshire County Massachusetts prior to being enrolled in a Revolutionary War unit on October 17, 1776. On August 5, 1779, he bought a lot in what is now Dalton, Massachusetts. In April 1791, he sold most of his Dalton land, and was by 1801 living in Schenectady, New York. By August 1810, Andrew and Molly had moved to Burlington, New York, where their son John was living.^[1]

Andrew died October 4, 1822, aged 79 years.^[1]

Mary "Molly" (Chamberlain) Spaford died February 13, 1829, aged 84 years 9 months 21 days. She was buried at the Chapin Cemetery in Pittsfield, New York.^[1]
