Francis was born in Ireland in 1756. He arrived in America around 1774[1] and served in the Revolutionary War from 1776 through 1783, taking part in the battles of Monmouth and Trenton[2]. Francis married Priscilla Cravath around 1781.[1] Afterwards they settled in New Jersey, where Priscilla died.
Francis was later one of the early settlers of Trumbull County, Ohio.[3][4] He died there in 1813, in the great typhoid epidemic of 1813 which also killed his daughter Martha.[5] He is buried in Girard Liberty Union Cemetery.[6]
