Hi David, may I ask why you edited the parents of this profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/UNKNOWN-168817 without providing any sources or even an explanation for the change?

Hi, David,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for the check in! I’m enjoying WikiTree. The more I look the more I find on the site. A bit overwhelming for an amateur but there’s lots to keep me busy for a long while. I’m looking forward to pursing a family connection with the Dutch Cape Colony Group.

Best

Dave

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi David

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.

Take care Karen

Hi Karen, glad to be part of the 'family'. My initial question is: I've loaded my GEDCOM file from Geni and I see everyone listed but none of the profile info I've taken so long to enter there seems to have transferred (like all the family info on my own profile for example). Do I have to enter all of that again starting with my own WikiTree profile page?

Hi David,

It is lovely to have you with us, the GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree, or add information, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches, once you have worked through that, any remaining names will need to be added manually, the link I have posted will help you with this process,

I hope this helps, any problems please let me know

Take care Karen

Welcome David

I am pleased to confirm and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site

Happy tree climbing

P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section on your profile page.

Hi Karen,

Hoping you can help. When I click on the link to go to RootsSearch it asks me for a WikiTree ID. What is my WikiTree ID and where do I find that? I've tried my profile 'Campion-655' and my email address but it doesn't work. Thanks Dave

Hi Dave,

It should work with Campion-655, it is not something I use a lot, and it wouldn't work for me, I shall ask others if they have had a problem and get back to you

Take care Karen

HI,

There does seem to be a problem with it at the moment, to use it you will have to type the information of the person using this link and hopefully the problem will soon be sorted

Take care Karen
