Biography

Said born Newfoundland on the 1891 census. OCT 1847.

Summerside Progress: JAN. 18, 1869, MARRIED ON DECEMBER 16TH AT THE MANSE, SPRINGFIELD; AUGUSTINE CAIN TO ELIZABETH DYMONT/DYMENT?, BOTH OF LOT 7.

Five of their children were in the PEI Baptismal Index: Annie, Catherine, Charles, Effie May, and George. It looks like most of them were baptized after Elizabeth's death, on 6 May 1899 in West Cape, children of Mr. and Mrs. A. Cain. Priscilla Cane was baptized on 7 November 1889 in West Cape. Annie and Effa May's marriage records in Massachusetts give Elizabeth and Augustine as their parents.

In the 1881 census, Augustine, a plasterer, and Elizabeth (age 32) were living in Lot 8 with Priscilla (12), Catherine (10), Annie (8), William (6), John (4) and Charles (1).

Elizabeth died 15 February 1889 at age 40. On the same gravestone was their daughter, Priscilla Cain, age 20, who died in December 1889. Effie McArthur Dyment, her surviving children, and Augustine Cain signed a conveyance of the land originally purchased by William Dyment in 1877 to Elizabeth's brother George.

On the 1891 Census, Augustine said he was born on the Island, his father in Newfoundland and his mother on PEI.

Augustine remarried in 1894, to Caroline Harris.^[1]

In 1901, the children of Elizabeth Dyment and Augustine Cain living with their father were Charles, George, and William. By 1911, only Charles and George were at home and unmarried.
