Obituary

A Sad Bereavement

Diptheria is certainly the most horrible disease with which our community has ever been afflicted, and it is a painful fact that it is usually accompanied by the angel of death. With this dread accompaniment, it has recently paid a fearful visit to the hearthstone of one of our most esteemed citizens, Mr. S. D. Burgin, and taken from him the three brightest jewels of his household.

First, on September 24th, Henry Levi, aged eight years. Second, October 12th, Sarah Elizabeth, aged one year and four months. Third, October 14th, John Albert, aged six years.

Those household jewels, "Knots of love," so dear to their parents hearts, all in so short a time, became the victims to that terrible disease--diptheria. Their deaths create a vacancy in the home circle that can not be filled, and there are eyes outside of that severed circle that will moisten and hearts that have grown sad that they are no more. The only comfort the bereaved parents can feel is that they are taken from a world of trouble to one of endless felicity, and that is, indeed, the greatest comfort which could be offered.

Dr. Reedy, who kindly furnishes us with the names and ages of the children, informs us that the fourth and last child is now quite ill with the same disease, and the whole community earnestly join us in sincere hope that this one may be spared to its mother.
