William Brown was born in Lincolnshire, England.
William, son of Esther (Brown) Norton, was born in1859 in Metheringham, Lincolnshire and his birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1859 in the Lincoln district.[1]
He was born six years after the death of Esther's first husband, William Norton (bef.1829-1853) and before her second marriage to Joseph Brown (1808-).
He appeared with Esther in the 1861 census as William Norton[2] and in the 1871 census, after his mother's 2nd marriage, as William Brown and his maternal grandmother Elizabeth (Casswell) Brown (1806-1883) is with the family in 1871.[3]
