Biography

William Brown was born 1832 at Great Driffield, Yorkshire, England.

www.familysearch.org shows a William Brown who was baptized on 2 April 1832 at Great Driftfield, son of Samuel Brown and Martha, maiden name unknown. Are the two William Browns the same person? ^[1]

He emigrated to South Australia apparently in 1854. Records show the arrival of William Brown at Adelaide on 8 Oct 1854.

Four years later, on 6 May 1858, he married Isabella Steele Clezy at Nairne, South Australia. On the marriage record his father was named as Samuel Brown. ^[2] They went on to have seven children.

William Brown died in 1892 at Cobourg, Victoria, and was buried at Melbourne General Cemetery.
