Biography

John Brewington Sr is a part of US Black heritage.

John was president of the Montclair, New Jersey, Public Library Board of Trustees for 4 years, and served on the Board of Education from 1976 to 1979. He earned a bachelors degree from Hampton Institute in Virginia and post-graduate degrees from New York University. He was an adjunct professor at Kean College and New York University.^[1]

John was born in 1924 in North Carolina.^[2] He was the son of Thomas Brewington and Minnie Newton. In 1940 he was living with his parents and siblings in Long Creek, Pender County, North Carolina where he was attending high school.^[3]

John served as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army from October 1950 to October 1952, including a period in Germany .^[4][1]

John married Louise Virginia Taylor in 1958 in Norfolk, Virginia.^[5]

He passed away in 1989 in Montclair, New Jersey.^[6] He was buried in Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair.^[7] He was survived by his wife Louise, a son and daughter, two sisters and two brothers.^[1]
