Biography

Flag of Suffolk (adopted 2017)
William Blois was born in Suffolk, England.

His father was Richard Blois (died 1559), Portman of Ipswich. Richard left The Christopher, later called The Mansion House, to his son, this WIlliam, who died 1607 and was buried in the church of Grundisburgh. Also on the familial property was Sigers farmhouse, which this William left to his son William, which later became Grundisburgh Hall.[1]

William's mother was Elizabeth Hill, the first wife of his father (who later married Rose Fisher). William married Alice Nottingham and they had the following children:[2]

  1. William Blois (died 1621), who married Frances Tye[1]
  2. Robert Blois
  3. Dorcas Blois
  4. Alice (Blois) Spikesworth, who married W. Spikesworth

Blois-167 and Blois-146 appear to represent the same person because: the have the same sources. Previously, one of the profiles was conflated with a different Blois.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need help with this merge.

Blois-167 and Blois-146 do not represent the same person because: profile has been de-conflated. Ready for merge, to be re-set. Thanks

There's a lot to be corrected here. The former merge that was rejected was actually correct (according to my info which is mainly from source [1] mentioned below by Porter Fann).

Cecily Wingfield lived much later and married his grandson (also a William, MP, knighted 1661, as pointed out by Porter Fann in her first line). Rose Fischer was not his mother but his stepmother. His mother Elizabeth Hill died upon his birth or shortly after. His father (Richard Blois, 1513-1589) remarried Rose Fischer and they produced John, Richard, Philip, Thomas, Ralph and Martha (says my database)

I don't have sufficient routine on WikiTree to make the corrections. Please go ahead if you feel so inclined.

(BTW, I collect data on ALL Blois; there are several family lines in Suffolk and Norfolk that have no known connection to this 'noble' family, but descend possibly/probably from bastards. Any information welcome, even with minimal trustworthy source)

The William Blois who married Cecily Wingfield already exists: William Blois Esq, MP (1600-1673)...

The William with the dates that you have shown here did not marry Cecily Wingfield.

Perhaps using the source[1] that you have linked can help you to identify which William this is, but he's definitely not the one who married Cecily.

[1] Betham, William S. The Baronetage of England, Or the History of the English Baronets, and Such Baronets of Scotland, as are of English Families: With Genealogical Tables, and Engravings of Their Armorial Bearings. Vol. 3. 1803, p. 74. London: W S Betham.

I recommend that the marriage be removed and that the details shown about his vital dates be searched against the sources cited.

Then, Cecily can be matched with her correct husband (who already exists on WikiTree as William Blois Esq, MP (1600-1673)).

If you find evidence of a contemporaneous Cecily who also married this earlier William, please let me know!

Thanks.

Any chance that some sources to justify the data in this record could be researched? A William Blois is reported in *History of Parliament to have married an "Elizabeth" Wingfield, daughter of Thomas Wingfield, but the dates here aren't in alignment with the reality of that William's existence. And, his parents are known. It looks like this profile is perhaps a GEDCOM mismatch with a parent that does not apply, too. Please see William Blois Esq, MP (*please note the sourcing present).

Before I would initiate a merge, it would seem best to detach this William from the parent that appears in error, or else is mixed data (maybe the latter, given the dates being off as much as they are, but then again, it was based on an Ancestry Tree, which should not be listed as a source).
