Marion Moffat Black was born on 6 November 1869 in Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire, Scotland, daughter of John Black and Beatrice (Gillies) Black.^[1][2]

She married William Vickers on 29 August 1890 at Stobhill Manse, Gorebridge, Edinburghshire, Scotland. She was a carpet factory worker living at Lingerswood Farm, Gorebridge, Edinburghshire.^[3] They had 8 children.
