Biography

Nels Berglund migrated from Sweden to US.

Nels Fredick Berglund was born 11 September 1853, in Varmland, Sweden, he died 22 April 1899, Lexington, Lafayette, Missouri. Through DNA, an uncle of Nels has been found: Anders Olsson Berg (1807-1874) he was born in Eda Glasbruk, Varmland, Sweden and died in Berg, Fagelvik, Gavleborg, Sweden.

Nels left Sweden about August of 1879, with his wife, who was expecting their first child. His first wife may have died on the ship, during child birth, or shortly after they arrived in America. They named their son, Charles Gus Berglund born 14 August 1879.

Nels traveled to Lafayette, Lexington, Missouri with his young son, where he probably became a coal miner. Nels Fredick Berglund was in need of a wife, his son Charles was less then two years old, could Nels have written for a mail order bride? In April of 1881, Johanna 'Hannah' Petronella Christenson/Christensdotter arrived in New York, she traveled to Missouri and married on 1 October 1881 Nels F. Berglund.^[1]Nels and Hannah had seven children with only three living to adulthood.

Nels wasn't on any of the Missouri census records^[2]

Nels Fredick Berglund, age 45, died on a Friday night at 11 pm, 22 April 1899; source family record of Jennie Berglund Bray. He was buried at Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington, Lafayette, Missouri.^[3]

He is probably the brother of Nels father: Anders Olsson Berg (1807, Eda Glasbruk, Varmaland, Sweden, died 1874, Berg, Fagelvik, Gavleborg, Sweden) married Anna Olsdotter in 1839, Ostra Fagolvik, Varmland, Sweden.
