Birth

Mary was baptised at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 26th July 1835. [1]She was the daughter of James Bayliss and Mary Whitley. Her father gave his occupation as labourer and the family were living in Long Hanborough at the time.

Marriage

Benjamin Jeffery and Mary Ann Baylis were married after banns at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 18th December 1853. They were bachelor and spinster and both living in the parish. Benjamin was of full age, a labourer and the son of John Jeffery who was a thatcher. Mary Ann was 19, a gloveress and the daughter of James Baylis who was a labourer. Neither could write so they both made their mark on the register with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Frederick Jeffery and Elizabeth Baylis.[2]

Emigration

Benjamin (45), Mary Ann (34) and their children Henry Nelson (14), Elizabeth (11), Edward (1) and Emily (1) arrived in Quebec, Canada in May 1869 on board the Dacia.[3]
