Birth

Thomas was born in 1843 in Hanborough.[1] He was the son of James Bayliss and Mary Whitley. It was two years before he was baptised, at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 2nd November 1845.[2] His father gave his occupation on the register as labourer.

Marriage

Thomas Bayliss and Mary Anne Whitley were married after banns at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 8th March 1863.[3] They were bachelor and spinster and both living in the parish. Thomas was 20, working as a labourer and the son of James Bayliss who was also a labourer. Mary Anne was of full age, a gloveress and the daughter of William Whitley who was a labourer. Thomas signed his own name on the register whilst Mary Anne could only make her mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Henry Styles and Miriam Berry.[4]
