Descendants Chart

[There is some additional private information, available to family members, regarding the lineage of John Thomas and Effie M. (Buhrman) Barton. That data is compiled in the family Descendants Charts that supplement these profiles.]

Miscellaneous

John was twice appointed Postmaster of Fountaindale, Adams County, PA, first on 20 Jul 1893, serving until 14 May 1897, [14] and again on 02 Dec 1907, serving until 31 Jan 1910. [15] A hand-written note on the latter source reads "Dis Jan 31, 1910 m.t. Fairfield," and that note apparently indicates that the Fountaindale post office closed permanently on that date and was integrated into the Fairfield, PA post office.

John's wife Effie, along with one of their sons, operated a General Store in Fountaindale. There is an undated photo of the store on Effie's profile, and a sign on the front of the store indicates that the post office was located there.

John was one of the ancestors involved in a questioned identification of an old family photo. The subject photo is shown as Image 4 in this profile, and the issue regarding the identification is fully explained in the .pdf file shown as Image 11, "Research Note: A Photo Conundrum, Rev. 1."
