Roscoe (age22) registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1917. He was described as medium height, stout build with brown hair and gray eyes. His employment was listed as Cotton Buyer for J.J. Willson out of Monticello, Georgia. [3] On December 12, 1917, Roscoe (age 22) enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Fireman 3rd Class and sent to Norfolk, Virginia. He served on the USS Arizona from January 27, 1918, to November 11, 1918, by which time Roscoe was promoted to Fireman 2nd Class. Roscoe received his discharge from the Navy on February 19, 1919.[4]

Roscoe died on July 16, 1971, in Griffin, Spalding, Georgia, United States, aged 76.[10][11] He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia.[12]
