Biography

Mary was the daughter of Thomas Arundell and his second wife Anne Philipson.[1][2][3] Her birth date is uncertain.

Mary married John Somerset[2][3] before 1629.[1] They had at least three children:

On 18 March 1650 Mary lodged a complaint that John Eubank has seized a manor her husband held at Chatham, County Durham while her husband was away and under a parliamentary sequestration order.[1] (There had been a previous legal case relating to Cleatham between her husband and John Eubank in 1640, suggesting that there may have been a long-running dispute over ownership.[4])

Somerset County, Maryland

Somerset County, Maryland was named after Mary.[5] (Anne Arundel County in Maryland was named after her sister Anne.[6])

I have now finished the main work I intend on this profile. If anyone spots any typos etc, please either correct them or message me. Thanks.

I have also expanded the profile of her husband John Somerset, whom Douglas Richardson has identified as in a trail from Gateway Mary Johanna Somerset to Surety Baron Saher de Quincy. This trail has not yet been developed by the Magna Carta Project.

As this profile is in a prospective trail from a Gateway Ancestor to a Magna Carta Surety Baron, I have made the Magna Carta Project a co-manager. Any questions, please contact me. Thanks.
