Biography

Birth

Luscomb Andrews was born at Raynham, Massachusetts, on 5 Sep 1790, the son of Zephaniah Andrews and Hepsibah (Luscombe) Andrews.^[1]

Military Service

Luscomb Andrews served in the Masschusetts militia during the War of 1812.^[2] He is probably the "Lucius Andrews" listed in the 1874 history of Livermore, Maine, as serving as a private in Captain Morse's Company and again from 25 Sep to 5 Nov 1814.^[3]

Marriage

On 23 Oct 1813, Luscomb Andrews of Livermore, Maine, and Rachel Millet of Turner, Maine, (both towns were then in Massachusetts) published at at Livermore their intention to marry,^[4] and they married there on 13 Apr 1814.^[5]

Residences

Luscomb Andrews was one of a number of men who migrated from Bristol County, Massachusetts, to Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), in last two decades of the Eighteenth Century and the first two decades of the Nineteenth. The first record found of him at Livermore is his marriage in April 1814,^[5] when he was 23 years old. Luscomb and Rachel Andrews recorded their first child, Almira Andrews, at Livermore the following month.^[6] Almira's birth is also recorded at Turner, Maine (then also in Massachusetts),^[7] and the rest of their children were born at Turner, where they lived until Luscomb's death in 1831.

Death

Luscomb Andrews died on 17 Oct 1831, and he is buried at the Keenes Mills Cemetery in Turner, Maine, where his gravestone gives his age at his death as 42.^[8]

Luscomb Andrews' first name is recorded as "Luscomb" in his birth record at Raynham, Massachusetts, and in his marriage record and the record of the birth of his first child in the vital records of Livermore, Maine. In the vital records of Turner, Maine—at least in the transcriptions available on FamilySearch.org—it is recorded as "Liscomb." (Bloom-1124 21:02, 28 November 2019 (UTC))
