Research Notes

A well written argument for the existence of children by this Isaac Allerton is given in Note C of A history of the Allerton family in the United States : 1585 to 1885, and a genealogy of the descendants of Isaac Allerton, "Mayflower pilgrim," Plymouth, Mass., 1620, by Allerton, Walter S. (Walter Scott), b. 1852; Currier, Horace True, ed, Publication date 1900 However, newer publications have indicated that there is confusion in the argument, and some other origin of the Allertons must exist.[3] Based on other errors found in "A History of the Allerton Family" and published in 1992, by Merrick, Barbara Lambert, "Important Allerton/Brewster Corrections," published in the Mayflower Descendant (Boston, MA: Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, 1899- ). Online database: AmericanAncestors.org, Vol 42, 1992, pages 117-123, an assumption is made that the newer research is correct.

Why does the Mayflower Families book state that Isaac III Allerton had issue, but now it isn't considered that John IV Allerton of Coventry, RI was his son? This turnabout would Kerri me out of the Mayflower society, even though my grandfather, Ward R. Chapin, was a member.
