I'm here to thank you for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
I would like to suggest that the England Project could fit your current research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.
Please take your time. Accuracy is so much more important than speed on WikiTree. And please add locations, dates, and at least one reliable source to each profile, particularly any pre-1700s profile, before you leave it. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).
Have questions? Please click the little "Reply" button under this comment and I will be sent a message. It's the only way that we are notified that you've been in touch.
:)

I'm afraid I haven't really understood how projects work. How do I "join" a project? What does it involve? What do I have to do with my data? Projects that would seem to fit my ancestors and interests are: England (surnames Wimberley, Burgess, Scholes, Harwood and others); Scotland (Irvine of Drum); Huguenot France/Ireland/Australia (Arabin). I hope for more light soon.
Four great reasons:
Both the England and the Scotland Projects have extra training, which is very helpful. The English page offers the Orphan Trail where you learn on orphaned profiles. The Scottish one has the Tartan trail - more training.
Support: If you have a question about, say, Wharram Percy, maybe someone in the group lives nearby knows of it and can offer suggestions. If you have a specialized knowledge, you might be able to help someone else out.
Make WikiTree profiles stronger: the team leaders might ask if anyone want to work on a specific place or kind of profile. Completely up to you if you do these.
Fun: I have been part of one WikiTree group for several years, and we talk about what we have been working on, have a virtual cup of coffee (or tea), give birthday greetings - a real sense of camaraderie.
:)

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

It was probably a mistake to include my whole database in one GEDCOM file (I've been expanding it using Brother's Keeper since the 1980s, before the Windows version came out). Oh well, you live and learn.
I am glad that you have the hang of it now, it can be a bit confusing, it was when I did one, I have not used Brother's Keeper, so will have to have a look at that one
take care Karen
Thanks for joining us! I hope you're enjoying our site and our community. I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Has the New Member How To Pages been helpful or has it left you with questions?
It's great to have you on board. Enjoy your time here, and good luck growing your branches. If you need help just click on my name and you will be transferred to my profile where you can post a message or send me a private message.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
I am pleased to confirm you as a member and welcome you to the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial. Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Have fun collaborating on your Garbutt ancestors
