Hugh Jackson Addington "Hugh Jack" was a big square-jawed man with bright, piercing eyes. He had spent his life as a farmer, rolling-mill operator, storekeeper of the Green Store (his own general store) and as a moonshiner.

Family History

Hugh Jackson Addington was the son of David Jesse Addington and Mary Louemma McConnell. The Addingtons are thought to have been of English descent with many ancestors being of Puritan or Quaker beliefs. Like many other colonial families, the Addingtons were farmers. The first Addington of this line in America was William Addington (abt 1750 - 1805).

Hugh was the father of Maybelle (Addington) Carter. He was the maternal grandfather of Helen Carter, June Carter Cash and Anita Carter. He was also the maternal great-grandfather of Carlene Carter, Rosey Nix and John Carter Cash.

He was a second cousin twice removed of Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle.

1905 April 2 Birth of third son William Brooks.

1907 February 18 Birth of second daughter Norma.

1909 May 10 Birth of third daughter Maybelle.

1910 According to the census record lived in Johnson, Scott, Virginia, USA with his wife Margaret and children Dewey, Ava, David, William, Norma and Maybelle.[2]

1913 November 2 Birth of fourth son Hugh Jackson Jr.

1915 December 26 Birth of fifth son Millburn.

1818 February 6 Birth of sixth son Warren.

1920 According to the census record lived in Civil District 7, Hawkins, Tennessee, USA with his wife Margaret and children Dewey, William, Norma, Maybelle, Hugh, Milburn and Warren.

1929 December 21 Hugh dies in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Virginia, USA from a lung abscess. He is buried in the Hugh Jack Addington Cemetery in Nickelsville, Scott County, Virginia, USA.
