Richard Bodkin in the time of King Henry VII of England was a citizen of Galway and Athenry and seized of a "camp" and lands of Tobberskehine and others. He was many times Provost of Athenry: and from him descend all in the way of surviving Bodkins in those parts. That Richard was succeeded by issue of four sons namely, James, Henry, John, and Laurence, to whom he evenly distributed their patrimony.
James Bodkin the first son of the said Richard had only one daughter, to whom he left the inheritance afterwards devolved [to?-this is a little unclear] the family of his younger brother Laurence
Henry Bodkin the second son had a single son Richard Bodkin; who had a single son Henry Bodkin, who had not but one surviving son, Ambrose Bodkin, father of David Bodkin of Galway, from whom the family of David Bodkin, which now consists of families of Kilcluny, of Anagh or Kilmoyan, and of Lacagh or Kiltrogue; and of the particular man Ambrose Bodkin of Tuam who wrote these charts.
John Bodkin the third son of the said Richard Bodkin was mayor of Galway in 1518 and produced many notable children, from these, Lord Christopher Bodkin son and heir of the same, was Archbishop of Tuam, when Phillip King of Spain was ruling in England: And from the daughters of John descend many illustrious prelates, viz. from "Joanetta", Lord Francis Kirwan Bishop of Aladen, from Bridget Lord Andrew Lynch bishop of Fenebore, from Mary Lord Stephen Kirwan of Clonfert and Roland Lynch Bishop of Duacen(?), and from Margaret Lord John de Burgo Archbishop of Tuam, and Hugo de Burgo, bishop of Duacen, and Lord Francis de Burgo recently deceased Archbishop of Tuam.
