The Burriss Dial Book (
https://archive.org/details/burrissdialdesce00dial) has a copy of a letter from a William Frank Dial, of Kentucky. It says:
"My father's name was William 3 Dial, he was born 9/15/1807, died 3/20/1897, had no brothers. He was the son of Thomas Dial who came from Tennessee. My grandfather, Thomas Dial, came from the Emerald Isle or England at a very early date. He had five sons and three daughters: James, Joseph, David, John, and
Thomas; the girls were Jane, Sallie and Polly. None of these are living in this part of Kentucky except my father's children. There are some in western Kentucky (John Anderson Dial line) and a large connection in southern Illinois, Franklin County, (This would be the David , William , Burriss 3 family.) and some in Boom-
ville, Indiana. (Which embraced the George White Dial Ancestry, see 1850 census of the areas mentioned. )
My father, William Dial, had 8 sons and four daughters. ... He was raised and died in Warren Co. Kentucky, was a farmer and traded stock in the South before the Civil War. He and one son were in the lost cause."
I am wondering if anyone has information about this Thomas Dial, and his children? I think that the son, David, who is mentioned, may be my ancestor David Dial, who migrated from Tennessee to Du Quoin, Franklin, Illinois.
