WikiTree did this

In the past few days I've become involved in a hitherto unknown Facebook group dedicated to the Toy family, which is the surname of my paternal grandmother. It's run by Darryl Toy who lives in Wiltshire. It turns out that while reading my entries on WikiTree he discovered that he's related to both my paternal grandparents!

Small world indeed.

I've put him in contact with George Judd, the Judd family genealogist who also lives in Wiltshire and they got on like a house on fire.

Through this group I have already discovered a 10th cousin and an eighth cousin once removed, both proven with paperwork. Now that's really stretching the tree, isn't it.

Just found another 8C1R tonight, he lives in California. This is great fun!
Just posted the tree for another 8th cousin I discovered. Born in Canada, lives in Scotland. It took five hours of research just to get the basics on WikiTree due to poor records - both birth and marriage - and I would never have found her without DNA. This one came from a cold enquiry email after a GEDmatch search in July.

And another one a few days ago. Glenn Blomfield of New Zealand is my 12th cousin once removed, via Henry Blomefyld (1535-abt. 1590)
