Day before yesterday I noticed that one of the profiles I manage, that of William Mew Judd , had lost a link to FindAGrave. I thought that a little odd and noted to myself to look into it.
Today I started catching up on Suggestions, which I haven't looked at for years but which I like to keep as clean as possible, and I noticed several errors in his profile unrelated to editing done by others after my last edit. One was the aforementioned FindAGrave error, which I discovered was due to the memorial having been taken down. The next was the link to his second marriage at Isle of Wight FHS. I checked and the record no longer exists there.
Now I was getting curious. The original record was tagged as a "stray" because it was a record of a marriage that took place in London. Ah, I thought, they probably decided they didn't need that because the government records would take care of it, even if he was born locally.
Nope. A search of FreeBDM revealed that the two transcriptions of that marriage had been blanked. There was a shell of the old records, but all the details were gone.
Now this guy comes from a fairly controversial immediate lineage, so I started to scratch my head a bit. Is someone behind the scenes "cleaning" his past? And if so, why only remove traces of his second marriage? None of it makes sense to me so far.
I'll let you know if the plot thickens ... and I'd love to hear of anyone else who has noticed anything similar. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but ... aliens.
