Boteler of Camerton

Pretty sure she has the wrong parents but before I disconnect them I thought I'd ask for someone to doublecheck.

I can't figure out what is meant by "Camerton" - The History and Antiquities of Buckingham v.4 p 559 has a pedigree and says she's named Maud and was the da. of William Boteler, Esq. of Camerton.  I can't figure out which "Butler" family this is supposed to be - I guess by process of elimination not Shropshire, Lancashire, or Norfolk someone guessed Ireland.

Thanks, that was helpful.

Sounds like this particular "Pincerna" family. This was about the time surnames were chosen and there were many Picerna/Butlers/Botelers, etc. so it makes sense they were many unrelated families with the same name.

Pincerna is just the Latin term for the occupation, so it's possible it has multiple unrelated origins.

You probably already know this but Wikipedia has a disambiguation page for Camerton (I'm sure it didn't refer to the Mongolian pop band):

* Camerton, Cumbria, a village in England

* Camerton, East Riding of Yorkshire, a village in England--this one is mentioned in the Doomesday Book, but no mention of Boteliers.  The head of the manor is Burstwick.

* Camerton, Somerset, a village in England

Nothing at all about Ireland.

Thanks - I'm referring to the office Chief Butler of Ireland which the Butler dynasty took their name a couple of generations later, and they preferred that particular spelling. Her current father is Theobald Walter, who was the first holder of the office. The Complete Peerage has a note regarding the origins and spelling variations.

Thank you for the disambiguation page - one would have to assume if it was one of those three counties (Cumbria, Yorkshire, Somerset) it would be a different family? Butler is a type of occupational surname so I would assume it's just a less well known Butler.
