trying to connect this man to his family, might be Acadian in origin, not sure.

Joseph Borgne dit Belisle was a widower when he remarried in 1783 in Vaudreuil.  Cannot find any other mention of his first wife, he is said to be a doctor on a couple of records.  The only others with the same family name or variant of Leborgne are Acadians.  Anybody have sources that could tie him to his family?  Thanks

Edit:  Seems he was from Paris, per PRDH.  Anybody on the other side of the big pond who could dredge up information about him, much appreciated.

I found him under Joseph Leborgne Belisle in Ancestry.ca , would have been married to Marie Patience Stemberg. he was born in Paris in the Faubourg St Antoine to Salomon and Sara Shepperd

and also @ www.genealogie.umontreal.ca   file #55580

No mention of Acadia or anything to connect him further !

Hi Maggie, found the pioneer file from PRDH, although they have his first marriage in the same year as his second marriage, not likely that.

The parentage for him out of Ancestry sounds suspicious.  Sara Shepperd is totally not a French name, at least in that form.  And with a place like Paris, where archive records are largely lost, gets even more iffy.  But thanks, this is more than I had before.

If the name is LeBorgne dit Belisle is most likely connected to families of Bell Isle, as their names in the records were Le Borgne/ Leborgne dit Belisle or dit(e) Bell Isle.

Hi Arora, thanks, his second marriage was in 1783, Tanguay doesn't really give more info than that, the first marriage is what makes for blanks, since only his first wife is named on seconf marriage, no parents named.

By the way, http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/dicoGenealogie/ is direct library access to Tanguay, they are making some changes so link may change, but they are simpler than googlebooks.
