WikiTree may have the wrong father listed for William Montague

William Montague's father may be Simon Montacute, Jr., husband of Hawise?  (I was on WikiTree profile: Montague-376)  This change would agree with my family genealogy (Genealogical Notes & Anecdotes, Fowler Mallett, published 1953)  I've contacted the profile manager and they suggested this post to G2G.  What are your thoughts and advice.

Do not rely on "family histories " as a source of good information. As has been discussed here many times, such "histories"  are often unreliable .

Go back to the profiles you've already created and source them with proper documents.

It will be a long time before you  earn certification to go before you get authority to work pre-1500.

You'll need to have more on your own family lines than "family history".
I wish I knew of some sources that would clarify William Montague's family.  Unfortunately too many family histories don't have any reliable documentation before 1500.

There is a site that indexes some of the Montague family information, maybe this could be a good place to start..?

I found out, one of my ancestors from England was involved in creating this index, Olive Moger. It may have something of value for you.

Thanks, Adam.

I'd urge caution.

The Visitation of Bucks 1623 goes back to Robert  the 'son' of William

The vic county history doesn't mention the family in either Burnham or Dorney which are the parishes approriate to Boveney. ( please check as scanning on a phone)

I wouldn't start to add any parents furthe back until I had established the parent of Robert.  I would look ffor wills on the National Archives website; if they are there then they will be on ancestry but may need creative searching to find them. If no luck would search Bucks archives. There is also an index in FMP

As an aside, no-one was buried in a unitary authorit in the 1500s, they are a late 20th century division of local government .

"England Marriages, 1538–1973 ," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NK1X-L8Z : 10 December 2014), William Mowntygewe and Agnes Nicholls, 03 Nov 1538; citing Waddesdon,Buckingham,England, reference , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 88,596.

This seems like a likely couple, given the age of the profile surely this simple familysearch source must link in somehow? 1538, just as records began....

As to his father, sorry I'm not to much help!
