EditBot and Military Categories

Question

I noticed a Bot is deleting the Soldiers Category from profiles and replacing it with Military which is a top-level category.  Then someone has to go behind and fix it.  See the history for [[De_la_Boulais-1]] as an example.  It doesn't look like there are any profiles left in the Soldiers category so it's a mute point now, but maybe someone can stop it anyhow.

To stop the edit bot add a Comment with the text STOP on profile WikiTree-3

Soldiers is a generic thing and profiles   belong in the country, service, war,  unit they fought for.

Perhaps, but the change from "Soldiers" to "Military" was not a simple matter of replacing a bad category name. It did not replace the old name with a name that had the same meaning and scope (there are many topics related to "military" that have little to do with individual soldiers) and members like Marcel who have been using the Soldiers category -- probably as a subtopic of "Professions" -- had no way of knowing that this change was coming.

Using the bot to make automated changes of this magnitude is already giving EditBot a bad reputation with some members (see Dodie's statements in this thread about her distrust of the bot), probably along with the Categorization project and the Military and War project.

Please quit using automated processes to make consequential changes like this one.

I think the EDITBot is excellent and is the only way forward of getting the Category mess in order...

Maybe add a step before renaming that you inform the project managers that in the next week a renaming should be done....

I was ok with the Bot making changes. I just pointing out it was incorrectly changing it to another top level category... Military.
