I believe my grandfater went to an orphanage after his mothers death. Alma Reese. His father i believe to be James W Mccullough. Sister Annie and brother john R mccullough. I think grampa name was lawrance w mccullough but we knew him as Bill. Any help is greatly appreciated as this has been a complete mystery to us. Thanks Alvin Mccullough alvin.mccullough@GMAIL.COM

Where were they located? The names do not sound familiar but will check. It would definitely help to know where they are from. Thanks

They were from ohio. Shelby county ohio. I believe my grandfather was son of james w mccullough and alma m reese. He was son of samual mccullough. They were in ohio for generations. Not sure of the connection as some records show his mother as alina. His sister was annie mccullough and younger brother john r mccullough. When i was young he sat holding a letter that he said was from his father and then said he will never open it. I would like to see exactly what happened so many years ago. I think the mother died after john was born and the father james left.william l or lawrance lived in lacrosse indiana as lone as i can remember. John r lived in knox and north judson in . My father melvin j was born in mattoon illinois. His brothers were both born in laporte county indiana.

Alvin, in looking over the tree you've entered, it seems like you should read the following biography and run your Ancestry DNA against theirs:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/McCullough-732

Of course, there were a lot of McCullough sons who were Archie namesakes about this time. If you haven't read the story of his surviving the Enoch Brown schoolhouse massacre and scalping, you should.  Along with the account of his cousin's capture by Indians.

Puts the childhood traumas recent generations might experience in civilized Americans into perspective.

Be sure to let us know if you're a match!
