Request for reminder function

I frequently find myself working on profiles that I did not create, so I am unable to combine some merges. Would it be possible to add a feature under My Profile to remind us to check on incomplete efforts? Matches and merges, unattached parents/children/siblings, items waiting on verified proof, etc.? It does not have to be a calendar, but reminders after 30 days to check on a profile would be really helpful. Perhaps from the Edit Person page, there could be a place to mark “add to my reminders” possibly with a timeline? And maybe a chance to mark items as completed, similar to viewing our problem profiles?

Hi Cindy. I haven't tried this myself, but maybe you could use the existing To-Do List feature to keep track of tasks like the ones you describe. You could store dates when action is required in the Notes field. See

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:To-Do_Lists

I tried this, but there are a few problems:

It is limited to people on my watch list

The pagination is broken; the table breaks after the first page. Note: removing the flowing code after the pagination breaks for each page resolves this problem:

 |}{| class="wikitable sortable" cellpadding="3"

!|Name

!|Birth

!|Notes

|-

There are not enough columns to display the info I want.

Good idea in theory though!

Found another problem. Every person on the list was added multiple times.

Hmm, thanks for trying. These do seem to be drawbacks.

Maybe keeping your own list in offline software like a spreadsheet would be a better alternative.

Unfortunately the development of an addition to WikiTree core capabilities along the lines you suggested is likely to be prevented by lack of resources. It's possible something might be included in the WikiTree Browser Extension if the developers of that like the idea.
There is a to-do item to send reminder emails when a merge has defaulted to approved, but I don't have an estimate for when it will be worked on.

From the menu, Find->Pending merges->Pendig merges initiated by me

Now you just need to check that on a regular basis (once a week, once a month, etc.)

I’ve started adding a reminder for merges in my google calendar, and then when I do it I just move it to the date for the next merge, as it was annoying me when someone who hadn’t been working on the profile completed the merge within a day or two of it being open to merge. At least if it a manager or someone who investigated the merge they are more sure of which details to keep.

If you have the WBE installed, you could create something in Notes or Clipboard.  They each have a grouping so you could create a group for Merging and then have a note with profile ID and when, or whatever you want.  You can always find merges that you proposed from the menu.

The Clipboard / Notes are available on a lot of pages.

Your Navigation Home Page (Nav Home Page) on the Drop down list of My Wikitree has a Scratch Pad Feature.

I use the Scratch Pad to keep track of all kinds of things I want to keep track of. Like if I intend to file an Unresponsive Manager, I date, list the url to the profile and what steps I have all ready completed. I check my list 2 -3 times a week and can easily see when I need to move.

Not as ideal as what you would like, but I have made it quite handy for myself.

Hi Cindy,

Someone introduced me to personal categorisation in relation to some tracking I wanted to do https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Personal_Categories, and perhaps this could be helpful as you can create subcategories too - so you could have one for "Next Month" or "May".  I often add a quick personal research note to the profile too, to remind me where I got to when I go back to the profile. I start it with "Personal progress note, can be deleted if I no longer manage" and end it with my name and date. Once I've finished what I was doing, I delete it, but I also hope that the wording on the note makes it clear that someone could happily do so in future if I somehow miss it and forget.

I was going to suggest a personal category too.  Easy to make one, easy to add one, easy to check whenever you want.  I haven't made subcategories but that seems to be even better for your need.
